At a Glance
For any eCommerce business, their website is a revenue-generating asset. Even a small drop in site speed or performance can lead to cart abandonment and reduced conversions. In fact, research shows that over 50% of customers will abandon a website if it takes longer than 3 seconds to load.
That’s why proactive and consistent performance monitoring is essential for eCommerce companies to identify issues before they begin to impact customer experience and revenue. This is exactly what GraVoc did for this eCommerce client, a flower bulb wholesaler that ships nationwide.
The Opportunity
Catching the slowdown early
As part of our Creative Services Retainer, which includes hosting, maintenance, and performance monitoring, we regularly review website health and speed metrics.
During routine monitoring and performance reviews, our team noticed that the client’s WordPress site was gradually becoming slower.
For a high-traffic eCommerce site, this kind of performance decline could soon impact product browsing, checkout performance, and overall conversions. So, we began to dig deeper into the issue using several widely trusted performance audit tools, including:
- Pingdom
- GTmetrix
- Google PageSpeed Insights
The results confirmed our initial findings. Across all platforms, the website consistently scored between D and F for performance, giving us a clear opportunity to improve website efficiency.
Our Approach
What we did for site speed optimization & what changed
For a high-traffic, feature-rich eCommerce site like our client’s, improving performance required a careful approach. Any optimization needed to increase speed without compromising the rich visual experience or functionality of the website.
Rather than implementing changes directly on the live site, our team created a separate testing environment where we could safely evaluate optimization solutions without impacting the live user experience.
After researching different tools, we implemented a targeted, industry-leading performance optimization solution, designed to improve front-end delivery, asset management, and overall page load efficiency.
The process included:
Installing and configuring the performance optimization tool in a testing environment
Running multiple rounds of performance testing
Identifying and resolving any potential conflicts with existing code or functionality
Fine-tuning configurations to ensure the site’s design and interactive features remained intact
Re-testing across multiple performance diagnostic platforms
The Results
A Complete Turnaround in Performance
After implementing the optimizations, the improvements were clear and consistent. The website’s performance grades improved dramatically across all testing tools.
Where the site previously received D–F scores, it now consistently achieves A-level performance ratings on Pingdom, GTmetrix, and Google PageSpeed Insights.
Performance testing showed:
-
Page load times reduced to around 1.44 seconds
-
Consistent performance gains across the entire site
-
Average performance grades improving from D–F to A
Importantly, these improvements were achieved across all pages, including the most complex and image-rich sections of the client’s site.

What these results mean for our client's WordPress site
For a high-traffic eCommerce business like our client’s, these kinds of speed improvements help:
Keep users engaged while browsing
Reduce the likelihood of cart abandonment
Support smoother checkout experiences
Maintain performance during peak traffic periods
Most importantly, it ensures the website continues to support the business, without performance becoming a bottleneck.
