In our latest employee spotlight, get to know Matt Wilkins, Practice Lead for Managed Services.

Matt began his 18-year-long career with GraVoc as a software developer, but quickly discovered a passion for IT. Today, he leads our managed services practice for IT, where he plays a central role in keeping our customers’ systems up to date and delivering timely support.

He is known for going above and beyond for both customers and his peers, ready to help wherever he can! Matt’s dedication is one of the main reasons why he recently won GraVoc’s Action Jackson award. This award was established to honor our dear friend, William A. Jackson, and is presented to a member of the GraVoc family who embodies Bill's compassion, dedication and pride. We are very fortunate to have Matt in our corner!

Tell us a little bit about yourself & what you do at GraVoc:

My name is Matt Wilkins; I’m the Practice Lead for Managed Services at GraVoc. Some of my responsibilities include managing our IT support helpdesk and handling software deployment for our managed services customers.

What drew you to pursue a career in IT?

I actually did not start my career in IT. When I first started at GraVoc, I worked as a software developer. One day, I got asked to go to a client site because they were facing a computer issue, but nobody was available to go there. When I got there, I knew what the issue was because I build computers at home. So, I fixed the issue. From that day forward, I was in the IT department!

What technologies do you work with at GraVoc?

Some of the technologies I work with in our managed IT services practice include Microsoft 365, Sentinel One, KnowBe4, Zix, Datto Backup, Datto RMM, Sendmarc, Blackpoint MDR, and Okta.

What do you enjoy the most about working for GraVoc?

I enjoy the people the most and the camaraderie with my team!

Favorite projects you've worked on so far?

I don’t really have a favorite project. I enjoy projects where I can learn something new or teach somebody a new solution. Educating someone else and learning from my peers are some of my favorite things about this job.

Where are we likely to find you outside of work?

Outside of work, you will probably find me at my kid’s dance competition, picking up one of my kids from a dance class, at home watching my children, or with my family at Disneyland.

What’s one piece of IT/tech advice you’d give to customers/businesses?

Make sure your accounts are protected by multi-factor authentication (MFA), because today, it’s so easy to hack into everything. So, if you’re not using MFA, your account is vulnerable.

What’s a new/emerging trend you're seeing in the IT industry?

Single sign-on (SSO) because it simplifies password management and reduces the chances of users getting locked out of their accounts. We implement Okta for SSO.
