Healing Abuse Working for Change (HAWC) is a leading domestic abuse agency in Massachusetts that provides domestic abuse helpline, emergency shelter, legal services, advocacy and counseling services to over 2,500 North Shore families per year. The agency approached GraVoc to refresh its website design to modernize the look and feel. Our WordPress web developers created a clean, refreshed design that is easy to browse and puts the focus on HAWC’s services.

The Light Foundation Logo

Inspired by HAWC’s branding, the website color palette includes vibrant shades of purple with orange accents that draw attention to calls-to-action across the site. Purple is closely tied to domestic abuse awareness movements and its inclusion on the website is designed to communicate a feeling of support and trust.

The website menu is streamlined, with clear navigation paths for users to find information on domestic violence, HAWC services, and ways to give. Similarly, on the homepage, users can quickly learn about HAWC’s mission and services. Authentic images and vibrant illustrations add to the visual appeal of the homepage. Across the website, site visitors can use a translation tool to view the site’s content in a few different languages. This expanded language capacity makes the website content more accessible to wider groups of survivors looking for help.

Our team also designed the website in adherence with ADA compliance best practices. In addition, our designers implemented on-page SEO across the website to enhance search visibility. We also added SEO functionality on the website so the organization can continue to optimize content on their end. All these features are key to helping HAWC’s important services reach a broader audience.

To give site visitors a deeper look at HAWC’s mission and build trust, we also created an impactful ‘About HAWC’ page. Authentic photos and content help establish what HAWC does as a domestic abuse agency and advocate for social change.

The website’s ‘About Domestic Violence’ webpages house important, educational information around domestic abuse, including ways to recognize an abusive relationship and myths about domestic abuse, to generate awareness. Our team also placed emphasis on presenting HAWC’s services through engaging and informative webpages. All the service webpages are easy to browse and discoverable on the website.
In addition to the service webpages, we also added a user-friendly form to the website, allowing site visitors looking for services to make an appointment with HAWC advocates.

Besides serving as a resource for domestic abuse survivors, the website also provides donation and giving opportunities for others looking to support the cause. The streamlined and responsive donation form on the website makes it easy for users to contribute to HAWC. Users can select a default donation amount or input their preferred amount, enter their contact information and payment details, and submit their contribution. The form also allows users to set up a recurring contribution or donation dedication.

Our team is thrilled with the refreshed HAWC website design. The WordPress website is responsive with a welcoming design that reflects the safe space HAWC aims to provide survivors of abuse. Site visitors can easily discover HAWC’s services and ways to give to the organization. Today, our team continues to provide HAWC with web support through our extensive WordPress Hosting and Maintenance Plan. We look forward to future creative projects with HAWC.
