For the second year in a row, GraVoc’s Vice President Catherine Gravel and her teammates from the Flip Flop Friends hosted a six-mile Mother’s Day walk along the Peabody bike path to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research. The Flip Flop Friends, a group that includes Gravel, Gina Braz-Rocha, Terri Eager-Garofano, Jeannie Hallinan, and Karen Eager-Braz, have participated in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk for the Cure for the past several years. Although the team will not be participating in the 2012 3-Day event, they have decided to continue their numerous fundraising efforts to raise money for the 2013 3-Day.

The weather cooperated this past Sunday, with temperatures already in the 60s when the walk started at 9 AM. An estimated 100 walkers turned out to take a leisurely stroll along the Independence Greenway. Many of the participants were mothers celebrating Mother’s Day with family and friends. The Flip Flop Friends encouraged all participants to wear pink, a challenge that was met with enthusiasm from a majority of the walkers. The money raised from the event will go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting breast cancer.
