If you happen to flip through the most recent issue of Massachusetts Family Business, you’ll see some familiar faces. GraVoc Associates appeared in the Third Quarter 2011 issue of the magazine, which is a Warren Group publication and the official magazine of the Family Business Association. “Climbing the Possibility Tree”, written by editor Christina O’Neill, follows the growth of GraVoc from its inception in 1994 to the present day, and explains how the entire Gravel clan has since become involved in the company. President & CEO David Gravel, his wife Catherine, sons Nate and Brian, and daughter Katrina are all full-time employees, while the youngest Gravel, Sarah, works part-time at the company.

Initially founded as a consulting firm specializing in automated accounting processes, GraVoc ultimately grew to encompass information systems, information technology, information security, software development, and most recently, media production. O’Neill’s article demonstrates not only the growth of the business, but also how each member of the family has found his or her own niche within its practices. Nate Gravel, Director of GraVoc’s Information Security practice, summarized it poignantly when he stated that “business is so ingrained in our family, it’s hard not to become part of it.”
